      Design for Good Webcast Series

      AIGA’s first Design for Good webcast, Design for social impact 101, took place on December 2, 2016. The Design for Good Webcast featured Mark Randall from Worldstudio, with a Q&A session with Gage Mitchell from Modern Species, our very own Justin Ahrens who also serves on the AIGA National Board, and Lennie Mowris from lenspeace.

      The Design for Good webcast series is a resource of practical information and instruction through inspirational stories, offering opportunities for engaging dialogue, leadership development, and professional training. The guest speakers—AIGA members and beyond—are all active practitioners in social impact design, gender equity, creative placemaking, government innovation, racial justice, healthcare access, and more. While sharing their approaches to design practice, they will demonstrate how designers can develop solutions for complex societal issues.

      Rule29 in #VegasBaby with AIGA Design Conference

      Our Creative Director Justin Ahrens and CFO Sarah Ahrens presented in the practice management symposium at the national AIGA Design Conference in Las Vegas. The symposium was like a conference-within-a-conference featuring expert presentations that provided valuable insights and guidance for independent designers as well as design managers in large firms.       Rule29 at #HOWLive 2016

      Our Creative Director, Justin Ahrens, spoke at HOW Design Live in Atlanta this May. Justin’s talk was titled “Branding Passion: How to create a compelling campaign or project for social change.”

      It focused on how design can be used to create positive social change. Creatives have the ability to shift perspective and to create impact. But making this impact can’t only happen with passion – there needs to be a strategic and defined process to carry the concept to real successful outcomes while not overwhelming you.

      In his session, Justin went through the Rule29 approach and how projects like Wheels4Water has helped bring safe water to thousands of people in Uganda. The end goal was to provide tips on how to do your own event and see how doing these types of projects can change you, your company and how YOU see the world. Would you like a closer look?       2015 Design Thinkers Conference

      On November 12-15, Justin spoke as a panelist and keynote at the RGD Design Thinkers Conference at the Sony Centre in Toronto, Canada. DesignThinkers, a conference for visual compactors, is the largest of its kind in Canada. The event showcases industry trends with a variety of speakers from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines.

      As stated on the conference site: This inspiring event, now in its 16th year, breeds change agents who become drivers of innovation. DesignThinkers 2015 delves into industry trends with visionaries from a range of communications-related disciplines including design, user experience, advertising, branding, consumer engagement, film, social media and entrepreneurship.

      On Wednesday November 11, the Rule29 team presented a talk at 25N, a local coworking space in Geneva, IL. The talk was entitled, What Story are You Telling?, and examined the power of branding to influence every aspect of an organization. Most of our talk was oriented around creating compelling stories that audiences want to engage with, using example case studies from recent projects.

      Design for Good at the 45th UCDA Design Conference

      On October 3-6, 2015, our Creative Director, Justin, will be speaking at the 45th annual UCDA Design Conference in Orlando, Florida. His speech will focus on designing for good and seeing differently.

      The conference brings together designers and communication professionals throughout the country for a variety of fun events that focuses giving people the knowledge they need in order to create powerful work.

      On May 7th, Justin spoke at the HOW Design Live 2015 Conference in Chicago, Il. His talk, “Why Can Culture Be More Important Than Your Creative?” explore why a company’s culture is potentially the most important (and most elusive) element for success in the design industry.
