Culture Vs Creative?
On May 7th, Justin spoke at the HOW Design Live 2015 Conference in Chicago, Il. His talk, “Why Can Culture Be More Important Than Your Creative?” explore why a company’s culture is potentially the most important (and most elusive) element for success in the design industry. He examined how to go about fostering the kind of company culture that employees want to be a part of and that clients want to work with. See his keynote on slideshare.
Speaking at the American Advertising Federation in Lincoln, NE
Creative Director, Justin Ahrens spoke to a Professional Development Meeting at the American Advertising Federation in Lincoln Nebraska on April 22, 2015. Justin spoke about how to encourage your team to become involved with important social causes, and what that involvement can do for your organization’s vision and creative work. Justin charged the audience with the importance of story and how it changes and motivates people.
Rule29 speaks for CSCA #GoBucks
On March 19, Justin gave a talk to the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts on balancing a successful career and a passion for social causes. Justin challenged the audience to “Make Creative Matter” in the realms of design, entrepreneurism, micro-funding, and collaboration with local colleges.
Renewing Water for Life
When PaperSpec and Storyboard heard about our work for Lifewater’s rebrand and our efforts with Wheels4Water, they were eager to share our story while contributing to our cause. They first featured us on one of their case stories and then offered to help us raise money for Wheels4Water by donating a dollar for every person that signed up for our webinar. Justin on Design Matters
Justin was interviewed by Debbie Millman on her podcast, Design Matters. Justin spoke about how to stay passionate about your design work, including a charge for designers to use their skills for positive social change. He also explored the concept behind his book, Life Kerning, of maintaining a balance between your career and personal life, allowing both to be fulfilling and productive. Rule29 Speaks At BP
On November 20, Justin spoke at a division of the BP office in downtown Chicago. He gave a version of his TEDx talk, “See Different, Do Different” in which he shares about the difference between passively looking at the world and actively trying to see the world with eagerness to understand its complexity, challenges, and beauty. Oriented around his experience with non-profits and the work that Rule29 has done with organizations in Africa, Justin believes a shift happens when we begin to look past our own experiences and environment – we begin to find new purpose and opportunities to serve others. On October 21, 2014, Justin spoke at the HOW Interactive Design Conference in Chicago. His talk focused on finding the art of wonder through film, story and design.
